Died my hair red.. Roots are orange?!?

I died my dark (nearly black) hair red using XXL red because my hair is so dark and i have died it so many times that hair dye hardly takes. My hair went a lush colour but my roots are orange as in luminous orange! I bleached my hair (high lights) around 10 months ago is it safe to strip it for about half hour rather than an hour then dye it brown? worth 10 points
